Big Deal is a short dark comedy written and directed by Reece McCullagh, produced by Reeka Studios and Red Road Productions, and starring Joe Deverell Smith and Sonny Jaiteh. Blending absurd humour with sharp, character-driven dialogue, the film transforms a typical backstreet drug deal into an awkward heart-to-heart — and an unforgettable chain of misjudgments.
In the quiet of a suburban night, Ted nervously approaches a car for his usual pickup. Max, his dealer, seems distant — curt, hooded, and eager to get things over with. But Ted has had enough of being treated like a stranger and insists on having a real conversation. Against all odds, Max opens up, confessing to heartbreak, rent troubles, and even a tragic case of constipation.
What begins as an awkward therapy session soon derails when flashing blue lights appear behind them. In a panicked attempt to avoid arrest, the pair down a handful of pills they believe to be drugs — only to realise, far too late, they’ve swallowed something else entirely.
A comedy of errors told in real time, Big Deal explores the bizarre humanity that can emerge in the most unlikely of situations — where empathy meets idiocy, and a simple drug deal becomes anything but routine.
